The savings a high-performance FPS heat-pump/AC system can save, is very much dependent on how extreme the weather is where you live as you can see in this chart to the right
If we make some conservative assumptions:
Summers in your area are between 80°F and 90°F
Winters between 25°F and 40°F
A 5-ton FPS system over a traditional system will save $1,575.00 per year in operating cost if the cost per KWH is $0.20.
That gives a 3 to 4 year payback for an FPS heat-pump/AC system at an electric rate of $0.20. If you live in a high electric rate area your pay back is faster. Likewise if you live in a low electric rate area your payback is longer. But consider Florida the electric rate is lower but the weather is more extreme. In Florida your payback is faster because the weather is more extreme.
